“The more I look at the patterns throughout history when it comes to the Greeks, it seems that within the Greek DNA exists some sort of inexplicable— something, that surfaces time and again when faced with the most impossible of obstacles. When pushed against the wall by a force that should not be overcome, somehow the Greeks manage to organize, unite and empower themselves and find a way to make miracles. That’s what happened in 1821 and that is what we need again now more than ever.
“There is no greater example in Modern History of the power of unification than the Greek Revolution of 1821. The world must be reminded that when faced with an impossible scenario, it is through the unification of a people that we can prevail. The power of unity is the only force that defies logic for the greater good.
“And somehow, as we approach 2021, this is a lesson we need now more than ever,” Jaymes concluded.
The question that is presented most seems to be the curious sentiment as to why an American became interested in the Greek Revolution of 1821.

The simple answer is— I have yet to come upon a greater feat in modern history that exemplifies the power of unification at such a profound level.
A small nation managed to come together and engage in a revolution that would stimulate the fall of the massive empire that held power over them. An Underdog overtook the Crown, so to speak… and in a sense, solidified what we now know as the Modern Western Civilization.
Throughout the legacy of Greece’s past, this theme has been a recurring one. When faced with extreme circumstances there seems to be a sort of ‘magic’ that materializes when the Greeks are forced to unite.
The world must be reminded that when faced with seemingly insurmountable adversity, it is through the unification of a people that we can prevail. The power of unity is the only force that defies logic for the greater good.
And somehow, as we approach 2021, this is a lesson we need now more than ever.
It is my belief that the early actions carried out by Ali Pasha in the North created an opening that unintentionally empowered the efforts of the Greek uprising, which led me to initiate the story with Markos Botsaris and the Suliotes. However, as the story unfolds Markos acts as a symbolic beacon that represents numerous participants throughout numerous battles, allowing non-Greek readers an introduction to many aspects of the Revolution within a single volume, while retaining the integrity of the actual history.
After 10 years of research, the story I chose to tell is a symbolic, fictionalized story imposed upon factual historic events with an intention to introduce the world to a part of history that most know very little about.
My goal was to present these events in a manner that could engage the curiosity of a non-Greek reader while honoring those that gave their lives to further stabilize the comforts we are currently blessed to embrace today. Hopefully, I have succeeded at doing so.

Το ερώτημα που φαίνεται να προκύπτει πιο συχνά είναι γιατί ένας Αμερικανός ενδιαφέρθηκε για την Ελληνική Επανάσταση του 1821.
Η απάντηση είναι απλή: Γιατί μέχρι σήμερα δεν έχω συναντήσει έναν μεγαλύτερο άθλο στη σύγχρονη ιστορία που να αποτελείτόσο βαθύ παράδειγμα ανθρώπινης συνένωσης.
Ένα μικρό έθνος κατάφερε να ενωθεί και να ξεκινήσει μιαεπανάσταση που αποτέλεσε το έναυσμα για την πτώση μιαςτεράστιας αυτοκρατορίας που το καταδυνάστευε. Ένααουτσάιντερ έκοψε πρώτο το νήμα, σαν να λέμε… υπό μιαέννοια, εδραίωσε αυτό που σήμερα γνωρίζουμε ως σύγχρονοδυτικό πολιτισμό.
Μέσα από την κληρονομιά του παρελθόντος της Ελλάδας, αυτότο μοτίβο επαναλαμβάνεται διαρκώς. Μπροστά σε ακραίεςπεριστάσεις, φαίνεται να υπάρχει ένα είδος «μαγείας» που υλοποιείται όταν οι Έλληνες αναγκάζονται να ενωθούν.
Ο κόσμος πρέπει να θυμάται πως όταν αντιμετωπίζει ανυπέρβλητες δυσκολίες, μπορεί να τις ξεπεράσει μόνο μέσααπό την ένωση. Η δύναμη της ενότητας είναι η μόνη που αψηφά τη λογική για το ευρύτερο καλό.
Και, με κάποιο τρόπο, καθώς πλησιάζουμε στο 2021, αυτό είναιένα μάθημα που σήμερα χρειαζόμαστε περισσότερο από ποτέ.
Πιστεύω ότι οι πρώτες ενέργειες του Αλή Πασά στον Βορράδημιούργησαν ένα «άνοιγμα» που άθελά του ενδυνάμωσε τιςπροσπάθειες των Ελλήνων εξεγερμένων και αυτό που με έκανενα ξεκινήσω την ιστορία με τον Μάρκο Μπότσαρη και τουςΣουλιώτες. Παρ’ όλα αυτά, καθώς εκτυλίσσεται η πλοκή, οΜάρκος λειτουργεί σαν ένας συμβολικός φάρος πουαντιπροσωπεύει πολλούς συμμέτοχους της επανάστασης μέσααπό μια σειρά μαχών, επιτρέποντας στον μη Έλληνα αναγνώστη μια εισαγωγή σε πολλές πτυχές της Επανάστασης μέσα σε ένα τόμο, ενώ διατηρεί την ακεραιότητα της πραγματικής ιστορίας.
Έπειτα από 10 χρόνια έρευνας, η ιστορία που επέλεξα να πωείναι μια συμβολική, δραματοποιημένη αφήγηση στηριγμένη σεπραγματικά ιστορικά γεγονότα, με πρόθεση να γνωρίσει στονκόσμο ένα κομμάτι ιστορίας για το οποίο οι περισσότερο ξέρουνελάχιστα.
Στόχος μου ήταν να παρουσιάσω αυτά τα γεγονότα με τρόπο πουθα μπορούσε να κεντρίσει την περιέργεια ενός μη Έλληνααναγνώστη αποτίοντας ταυτόχρονα φόρο τιμής σε αυτούς πουέδωσαν τη ζωή τους για να θεμελιώσουν τις ανέσεις που έχουμετην ευλογία να απολαμβάνουμε σήμερα. Ελπίδα μου, να το έχωπετύχει.
